Vortex waistlines and vortex gas

چکیده
A large body of work over the last few years [1] supports the picture of long thick vortices as the most important long range degrees of freedom for confinement. In this note we wish to examine more closely the manner in which a linear potential arises from vortex fluctuations. One customarily assumes a picture of randomly distributed vortices of certain thickness and basically arbitrary length. Furthermore, in the presence of a Wilson loop, one assumes that the free energy cost and hence the probability for a vortex to pierce anywhere inside the area enclosed by the loop is constant for all loop sizes. Summing then independently over all vortices linking with the loop one gets area law behavior for the loop expectation:

Effect of Surface Roughness on Vortex Length and Efficiency of Gas-oil Cyclones through CFD Modelling
Separation of suspended droplets in a fluid flow has been a great concern for scientists and technologists. In the current study, the effect of the surface roughness on flow field and the performance of a gas-oil cyclone is studied numerically. The droplets and the turbulent airflow inside the cyclone are considered to be the discrete and continuous phases respectively. The Reynolds stress mode...

In this study, fluid flow and energy separation in a micro-scale Ranque-HilschVortex Tube are numerically investigated. The flow is assumed as 2D, steady, compressible ideal gas, and shear-stress-transport SST k-W is found to be a bestchoice for modeling of turbulence phenomena. The results are in a good agreementwith the experimental results reported in the literature. The results show that f...
متن کاملThe parametric study of an electrical submersible pump rotary gas separator under two-phase flow condition
The performance of the electric submersible pump (ESP) significantly affected by Gas Void Fraction (GVF). Thus, using of a Rotary Gas Separator (RGS) is a suitable solution for this issue. The performance of the RGS is function of different parameters such as geometry of impeller, rotating speed, boundary conditions, media viscosity and GVF. In this study, the influences of GVF, viscosity, ...

متن کاملVortex waistlines and long range fluctuations
We examine the manner in which a linear potential results from fluctuations due to vortices linked with the Wilson loop. Our discussion is based on exact relations and inequalities between the Wilson loop and the vortex and electric flux order parameters. We show that, contrary to the customary naive picture, only vortex fluctuations of thickness of the order of the spatial linear size of the l...
